Our Story

Written Outside, Edited by Lamplight

Driftwood Dispatch began in 2019 with a borrowed tent, a dented skillet and a stubborn belief: the best travel writing happens after the day's walking is done.

Why We Exist

Slow travel, honestly told

We are a small crew of guides, cooks and correspondents who file from ferries, bothies and night trains. No press trips, no sponsored rankings — every route, recipe and packing list here was paid for, walked and slept in by the person who wrote it.

We publish one dispatch a month because that is the pace the road sets. Between issues we test gear until it breaks, re-walk reader routes, and answer every letter that arrives through the contact page.

Walk it first

Nothing is published from a press release. If we recommend a trail, one of us has blisters from it.

Leave no trace

Every guide includes low-impact practice. Wild places are the whole business model — we protect the inventory.

Answer every letter

Readers correct our maps, share their huts and keep us honest. The inbox is the editorial meeting.

Have a route we should walk, a market we should taste, or a correction we should print?
